A Conway man is jailed in Myrtle Beach on an attempted murder charge Friday morning, after police said he stabbed his girlfriend, according to authorities.

Charles London Whittaker, 61, is charged with attempted murder and was being held at the Myrtle Beach Jail pending a bail hearing, according to jail records.

The charge stemmed from a report by a 55-year-old woman that she was stabbed in the chest, cut on the arm and hand and punched in the mouth, according to the report. The woman said she and Whittaker had been dating about a month before the incident.

The victim said she was in a rear room of her house on Ninth Ave. South when Whittaker came in and yelled at her, according to the report. The victim said Whittaker told her if he can’t have her, he was going to kill her.

The victim said Whittaker hit her in the face then took a knife and began stabbing her, according to the report. The victim said Whittaker left and dropped the knife, which she put on the kitchen table.

Horry County police took Whittaker into custody at his home in Conway, according to the report. The victim’s children and grandchildren were at the home during the incident.

The victim was taken to Grand Strand Regional Medical Center for treatment. Her condition was unavailable Friday morning.
