Myrtle Beach police investigate couple being shot at twice an hour apart

— Myrtle Beach police are investigating two shootings involving the same victims that occurred about an hour apart, according to police reports.

A 29-year-old man and 26-year-old woman told officers that they were driving home from a movie when at 7 p.m. Monday a light burgundy colored Honda Accord drove up next to them when they were in the area of Kings Highway at Fifth Avenue South, police said.

The male victim, who was driving, told police that a man waved a gun at them from the other vehicle before he fired two shots, which struck the victim’s car, according to the report. The left rear tire of the victim’s car was shot and the left rear passenger door had a bullet hole in it.

The victim stopped the car to change the tire and called his father, according to the report. The victim’s father came to the scene to help change the tire and the victim drove to the police department to report the incident.

The victim said as he drove to the police department two other men in a white vehicle -- Crown Victoria or Mercury Town Car -- shot at him as he drove by, but the report did not list where that incident occurred. The victim said he sped to the police department for help.

Both victims were upset, but not hurt during the shootings. The male victim said he recognized one of the suspects because that man is dating a girl, who was an acquaintance of the victim, according to the report.

Myrtle Beach police Capt. David Knipes said the incidents are under investigation.

In a separate report, officers were flagged down in the 600 block of First Avenue South at 8 p.m. Monday by two people who said they were outside when they saw a white Crown Victoria parked at 701 Collins St., and saw a man standing on the passenger side shoot a gun across the top of the vehicle, according to the report. The witnesses said the man fired five or six shots before he ran toward Third Avenue South.

The witnesses said two women, who live in the house, had been outside with another man who got in the vehicle and drove away, according to the report. The witnesses said they had seen the driver at the house before visiting with the other two people.

The women, who live in the house, told police that the 29-year-old man driving the vehicle was at the house, but they did not see anyone shoot a gun and only heard several gunshots, according to the report. The driver of the vehicle, which was a white Grand Marquis, returned to the house after being called by one of the women and told police he was parked in the driveway visiting when he heard the gunshots.

Police found six shell casings in the driveway, according to the report.

The driver, Ernie Devon Mitchum, 29, of Myrtle Beach, was arrested after police learned he had an outstanding warrant for failure to appear in court on a noise violation, according to the report. Police towed the vehicle for processing.
