Coastal Carolina football player arrested over the weekend

Published: June 11, 2012

Coastal Carolina football player Miles Rankin was arrested and booked into J. Reuben Long Detention Center over the weekend on charges of shoplifting under $2,000 and assault and battery third degree.

Rankin, who saw limited action in seven games last season as a true freshman, was booked at 11:30 p.m. Saturday and released Sunday evening.

No disciplinary decisions have been made yet by the university or football program, said CCU associate athletic director for media relations Mike Cawood.

“We are aware of the Miles Rankin situation, but as of right now, we’re letting the legal process take its due course before any decisions are made,” Cawood said.

Rankin, a safety from Atlanta, Ga., recorded just four tackles in seven games off the bench last season.
