ORANGEBURG
The Christian Academy of Myrtle Beach boys basketball team was in familiar territory heading into Tuesday’s quarterfinal matchup against Newberry Academy in the SCISA Class A state playoffs.
The Saints, however, weren’t used to the result as they came up short in a 51-48 loss.
“The boys are sick,” Christian Academy coach Darren Gore said. “We played hard. We got everything we wanted. We had four possessions in a row to get a chance at it and we either walked or threw the ball away. They knew it was right there in their grasp. It’s a tough loss, especially for our lone Senior Alex Morris.”
Junior Kendall Henry led the way for the Saints with 18 points and 11 rebounds. Max Smith had six rebounds and two blocks and Alex Morris and Matt Doria each scored six points for Christian Academy.
“We will come back loaded for next year as everyone is coming back,” Gore said. “We got to get to work again this summer and work on some things.”
