Davis Love III, a winner of 20 PGA Tour events and the 2012 U.S. Ryder Cup Team captain, has committed to make his first appearance this year in the Hootie & the Blowfish Monday After the Masters Celebrity Pro-Am.
He is among the early commitments to participate in the 18th annual tournament – the 10th consecutive on the Grand Strand – April 9 at Barefoot Resort & Golf’s Dye Club.
Other commitments include tournament regulars John Daly and Tommy “Two Gloves” Gainey of the PGA Tour, and Conway native and LPGA member Kristy McPherson.
ESPN Radio’s “Mike & Mike in the Morning Show” is returning for a second consecutive live broadcast from 6-10 a.m. Co-host Mike Greenberg is not scheduled to play following the broadcast, though Mike Golic will participate.
“Expect the regular guys to be there along with a few other surprises we’re hoping for down the road,” said tournament director Paul Graham.
In addition to his 20 wins, which include the 1997 PGA Championship, 1992 and 2003 Players Championship and five victories at the RBC Heritage in Hilton Head Island, Love has an additional 45 top-three finishes on the PGA Tour.
Despite not playing in the Hootie MAM previously, the 47-year-old Charlotte, N.C., native is very familiar with Barefoot Resort, having designed one of the resort’s four courses that opened in 1999.
Love’s son, Dru, a senior at Frederica Academy on St. Simons Island, Ga., is expected to play in the Palmetto High School Golf Championship the previous weekend. He has played in the Easter-weekend Palmetto in recent years. The Palmetto, featuring more than 50 high school teams, is April 5-7 on five courses combined at Barefoot Resort and Legends Resort.
Javier Colon, a regular in the Hootie MAM over the past decade, returns to the event in 2012 after missing it last year to tape the competition in the first year of “The Voice” television show, which he won.
Colon will team with Sister Hazel and possibly other special guests for a performance April 7 at the House of Blues. Tickets start at $33 in advance and a portion of the proceeds from ticket sales will go to MAM charities, which includes junior golf and the educational needs of children in South Carolina. Last year’s tournament and affiliated events raised $350,000 for charity.
Tickets for the Hootie MAM go on sale at 11 a.m. Saturday at the House of Blues, Barefoot Resort pro shops and all Ticketmaster outlets. Tickets are $15 and children 12 and under are admitted free, though they must have a ticket to enter.
The event has sold out its approximate 6,000 tickets in each of the past six years, and tickets are often sold out prior to the day of the event, as was the case last year.
Mike & Mike’s broadcast will be followed by a celebrity long drive contest at 10 a.m. and the tournament at 11 a.m.
