For the past three years, Wardlaw Academy has had the Lowcountry Prep girls basketball team’s number, knocking the Fighting Marlins out of the state playoffs each year.
The result was different on Monday.
Lowcountry used a 35-point first half en route to a 54-42 win over Wardlaw Academy in the quarterfinals of the SCISA Class A state playoffs. It will now play the winner of Clarendon Hall-Newberry Academy in the semifinals.
“It feels really good to beat Wardlaw,” Fighting Marlins coach Danny Bell said. “It is something we haven’t done. We played really well. If we play defense like we did tonight, we should be able to achieve what we set out to do.”
