SANTEE -- The St. James boys basketball team’s trip to the state playoffs was short-lived as it lost to second-seeded Lake Marion, 74-53, on Friday in the first round of the Class AAA playoffs.

“They are not happy with the loss,” Sharks coach Monty Carr said of his third-seeded Sharks. “They are very disappointed. However, they are ready to get to work in the offseason and get ready for next year.”

Caleb Duggan led St. James with 18 points, Matt Strange added 15 before fouling out and Tredarius McCallum added 10 points.

“We committed key turnovers in the third quarter that gave them easy layups and a working margin to finish up with a 21-point win,” Carr said. “Luckily, we are returning 10 of our 13 players so we are looking to make sure we improve on our individual games and put it all together for the 2012-2013 season.”
