BLUFFTON -- The North Myrtle Beach girls basketball team’s season came to an end Monday night when Taylor Allman’s desperation heave bounced off the backboard, capping a 55-52 loss to Bluffton in the first round of the Class AAA playoffs.

The Bobcats had a chance to ice the game with 3.9 seconds left, but Jennifer Giles missed a pair of free throws, allowing for Allman’s last-second heave.

Third-seeded North Myrtle Beach turned the ball over 26 times – leading to 29 points for second-seeded Bluffton – which proved costly as the Bobcats shot just 31 percent.

• (At) Hilton Head Island 40, Socastee 30 | In the end, the Seahawks’ size was too much for the Braves.

Fourth-seeded Socastee led by two entering the fourth quarter, but was outscored 14-2 in the final frame, ending an upset bid.

“[Our] intensity let down a little bit [in the fourth],” Socastee coach Ginger Ford said. “Every game we play, we play against more size and we were certainly up against that tonight. I think it started to wear on us in the fourth.”

The young Braves – who had no seniors this season – earned a wealth of experience Monday, Ford said.

“That’s a positive,” she said. “I’m glad we had the opportunity to go to a playoff game so the players could see what it’s all about and how you have to prepare for one.”

The Braves are already excited about their prospects for next season, she said.

“I think they’ve already been talking about the things individually and team-wise they need to be working on,” Ford said. “They’re already thinking in terms of what they want to do.”
