Horry County police arrested a 27-year-old man on an attempted murder charge after using the department’s bloodhound tracking team to search for him in a wooded area early Thursday, Sgt. Robert Kegler said.

Kendrick Walter Dorell Green, 27, of Myrtle Beach, was charged with attempted murder and is being held at J. Reuben Long Detention Center pending a bond hearing, Kegler said.

Officers went to Secrets Nightclub about 2:45 a.m. Thursday for a wanted person at the bar, Kegler said. Green ran out of the club and into a wooded area, so officers set up a perimeter and used the department’s bloodhound tracking team to search the area and Green was located about 10 minutes later.

The charges stemmed from about 10 p.m. Sept. 25, when officers were called to a local hospital for a person being treated for a gunshot wound, Kegler said. The victim told police he was shot in the leg during a confrontation in Myrtle Beach.

An investigation showed that words were exchanged between the victim and the suspect on Racepath Street in the Myrtle Beach section of Horry County, Kegler said. During the confrontation, the victim was struck in the head with a pistol and then shot in the left upper thigh. The victim left the scene and went to the hospital for treatment.

Through an investigation, detectives identified Green as the suspect in the shooting and obtained warrants for his arrest, Kegler said. Officers had been searching for Green since the shooting.
