A Myrtle Beach area man charged with murder in connection with a November shooting has been released on $85,000 bail from J. Reuben Long Detention Center.

Kelly Jerome McNeil, 42, was released at 10:48 a.m. Wednesday from the jail, according to jail records.

Myrtle Beach police charged McNeil with murder in connection with the shooting death of 43-year-old Joe James of Conway, according to police.

James suffered at least one gunshot wound that caused massive hemorrhaging and was pronounced dead at 2:10 a.m. Nov. 4 while being treated at Grand Strand Regional Medical Center, Horry County Deputy Coroner Darris Fowler said at the time of the incident.

Police said they were called at 1:15 a.m. Nov. 4 to 6314 Wedgewood St., which is an apartment complex located off 65th Avenue North in the city, for a shooting. When officers arrived they found James on the ground next to a vehicle in the parking lot. He was taken by EMS to the hospital.

Police received information that led them to McNeil’s home at Alta Surf, which is located near River Oaks and International Drive. The Horry County Police Department’s SWAT Team secured the area and the Horry County’s negotiation team talked McNeil into surrendering and he was taken into custody without incident.
