Infrastructure needs new revenue

Residents deserve better maintenance revenue for Horry County and the state. Just drive anywhere in the state and Horry County and you can see we need help in our infrastructure. The people deserve better who live here paying taxes. They say we are short of funds. We still have residents who live here who have dirt roads. They pay taxes; they deserve better.

We are getting new roads in Myrtle Beach but we are not keeping our other roads up. Just drive on U.S. 17 Business from Surfside Beach into Myrtle Beach and to the north. This highway has never been repaired. Some places driving downtown are like driving on washboard. We need to come up with more revenue, such as tolls into Myrtle Beach to pay for I-73 and to repair the rest of our roads.

We need video poker machines brought back for revenue. This needs to be put into place at the old Pottery shops out on U.S. 501 (across the bridge to nowhere that we spent too much money on). This could be for all the family. When complete, this could bring millions of dollars into Myrtle Beach that we need so bad.

Boats and trailers should have a license plate registration fee each year. We have people living here with out-of-state tags and kids going to our schools. They should have an S.C. tag and pay taxes. This would be a big factor for revenue. If you see this, just call the Horry County auditor’s office.

When we as a state don’t take care of our infrastructure, economic development suffers. Road money needs to be put into the state budget. We need someone who’s going to get this done. Our governor, the Hon. Nikki Haley, will get things done. This all needs to get funded now. The traffic is getting worse each year.
