Compliments to our brave City Council: On Jan. 24 our elected City Council and mayor gave a much needed merit raise to City Manager Tom Leath, from $160,000 to $164,800 with all continued perks, and Attorney Tom Ellenburg, from $125,000 to $128,750 with continued perks.

The vote was 7 to 0, so every time you see an elected official in our city, give them a big thank you. In these economic times our city manager and attorney as well as all city employees need to keep their living standard in check. Without great leadership and great legal advice our city would tend to become weak.

Thanks to Mayor John Rhodes, Mike Chestnut, Mike Lowder, Susan Means, Phil Render, Randal Wallace and Wayne Gray for 100 percent agreement. It’s elected public officials like we have that are dependable. We have a great city; let’s commend these leaders for their stand.
