Conway man dies in vehicle wreck
One man is dead after a wreck on U.S. 501 at Savannah Bluff Road.
Senior Trooper Brent Kelly of the S.C. Highway Patrol said the incident happened at 6:22 p.m. Wednesday night when a vehicle hit a pedestrian, who was not identified by press time.
A man driving a 2002 Chevy Tahoe was headed south on U.S. 501 when he hit the pedestrian. Kelly said the pedestrian was illegally in the roadway at the time.
The driver of the vehicle was not injured, was wearing his seatbelt and will not be charged in the accident, Kelly said.

One person wounded in store robbery
One person was shot early Wednesday during a store robbery in Horry County, police said.
The robbery occurred at 5 a.m. at the Kangaroo convenience store on S.C. 90 in the Wampee community, said Sgt. Robert Kegler, police spokesman.
Three men wearing masks showed weapons when they entered the store and demanded money from the clerk, Kegler said.
A customer was shot in the leg as he walked into the store during the robbery, Kegler said.
The victim was taken to the hospital with injuries police said did not appear to be life threatening.
Police are searching for the suspects who left the scene in a vehicle.

Man charged with indecent exposure
A Surfside Beach man remains jailed after police said he was seen urinating in public, according to a police report.
David Lee Irving, 47, is charged with indecent exposure and public intoxication after officers found him on the ground in a grassy area near Frontage Road and First Avenue North at 3:30 p.m. Tuesday, according to a Surfside Beach police report.
A witness told officers she saw Irving unzip his pants and urinate in the grass in plain view before officers arrived.
Irving was being held Wednesday at J. Reuben Long Detention Center in Conway.

GOP group holds legislative breakfast
The South Strand Republican Club is hosting its annual legislative breakfast beginning at 9 a.m. Saturday at Bonefish Grill, 8703 U.S. 17 Bypass S., Surfside Beach.
Tickets are $10 per person and are available to the public.
Guest speakers include S.C. Attorney General Alan Wilson; state Sens. Ray Cleary and Luke Rankin; and Reps. Nelson Hardwick, Thad Viers and Alan Clemmons.
The legislators will take questions from the audience.

Gala planned for Humane Society
It is unknown whether people will actually get to kiss dogs and cats at an event Grand Strand Humane Society planned for this week, but Grand Stranders will be able to celebrate Valentine’s Day and help a local nonprofit at the same time.
The Humane Society, which operates the animal shelter in Myrtle Beach, is holding the Smooch a Pooch, Kiss a Kitty gala from 7 to 10 p.m. Saturday at the Grande Dunes Members Club.
The Burroughs & Chapin Co. Inc., is hosting the event that will include dancing to live music performed by local band members who have renamed themselves Kibbles & Bits, along with hors d’oeuvres prepared by the Members Club chef and staff, a reverse raffle and more. Tickets are $150 per couple and are available now.
“We are so grateful to the Burroughs & Chapin Company for donating their exquisite Members Club to help us raise much needed donations,” said Sandy Brown, humane society executive director.

Workshop for foreign worker employers
The International Student Workshop will be held for those who hire or work with international students who visit the Grand Strand each summer as part of the J1 Visa Program, according to a news release from the city of Myrtle Beach.
The free event will be held at 9:30 a.m. Feb. 22 in ballrooms B and C at the Myrtle Beach Convention Center.
The workshop is being sponsored by Myrtle Beach, Horry County, North Myrtle Beach and the Myrtle Beach Area Hospitality Association.
