The reigning Big South-champion Coastal Carolina women’s tennis team opened the season with a narrow victory over Georgia Southern 4-3 on Sunday.

The Golden Eagles’ Alexis Prickett held match point on the Chanticleers’ Diana Mortlock in the third set, looking to clinch the match for Georgia Southern. But Mortlock battled back to win the third set 7-6 (6) to help Coastal open the season with a win.

•  Greer’s Chris Eassy won a one-hole playoff on Sunday to take the Men’s Club Division title in the SCGA Tournament of Champions at The Tradition Club.

Eassy shot a final-round 72 and held off Chesnee’s T.J. Hines (76) in the playoff for the $350 gift certificate prize. Both finished at 144.

Bluffton’s Jennier Adams (80) defeated Hilton Head Island’s Terrie Allemang (81) in a four-hole playoff to win the Women’s Division and a $300 gift certificate.

McCormick’s Virgil Judah (152) won the One Day Senior event and $300 gift certificate, Greenville’s Ron Clontz (146) won the One Day Gross title and $300 gift certificate, and Greenville’s Mike Robinson 159) won the One Day Net title and $300 gift certificate.
