Lighten up, folks.

As the person with the idea for the Democratic women to tear down the Republican presidential candidates sand sculpture, I’ve been amazed at some of the reaction. The purpose was to have some fun in the name of political satire and create publicity for Myrtle Beach nationwide; the news actually made it to England.

At the same time we were happy to make a donation to the Mothers Against Violence (and would encourage others to help them as well). Another goal was to remind people that there are Democrats in Horry County. We are pleased to have accomplished our goals and to have received phone calls and emails from interested women who want to join our group.

By the way, the sand sculpture had to be torn down and the sand saved for another festival or special event.

Also in 2008 there was a Democratic presidential debate and the sand sculpture of Hillary Clinton, Barack Obama and John Edwards was destroyed as a publicity event with Stephen Colbert’s show. I thought it was funny and never heard any complaints from Democrats.

In closing, I’d say if this is the only thing you have to fret about this week, you’ve got it made!
