Those darn Democrats.

There are only seven of them in all of Horry County and there they were, shovels in hand, ruining a perfectly nice sand sculpture of our favorite Republican presidential candidates, and ex-candidates.

Oh, sure, they had a lot of excuses for the terrible thing they did.

We did it for charity, they said.

And we thought Newt could use a face lift.

Oh, and we decided Mitt really needed some off the top, like maybe 1 percent

Besides, the GOP primary was over and all those guys had already moved to Florida. Heck, they won’t even say “Myrtle Beach” again for another four years.

And that sculpure wasn’t exactly Mount Rushmore. It wouldn’t last four more days, much less four more years.

And then there was that other lame excuse from the Democrats: We would not want a thunderstorm to come along and make them all drippy. Who wants a drippy candidate? Hadn’t Rick Perry already dropped out?

Well, it made the Horry County Republicans -- that would be just about everyone else -- downright crazy.

We should be able to give our sand sculpture a proper ruination, they said.

They were our candidates, not their candidates. Republicans would never touch a Democrat sand sculpature.

And isn’t that the way it is with Democrats: Always tearing down, never building up.

Just because Democrats watch “The Colbert Report” every night they think the Republican candidates are a big joke.

Well, there’s nothing funny about these guys. They’ll find that out if one of them gets elected.

Dang it all.
