Coastal Uncorked events were announced Monday for the third annual food, wine and spirits festival, which will take place April 22 through 29.
Gone is the Tasting Trolley – which many participants described as “a party on wheels” – that allowed folks to go to selected destinations, mostly hotels, where they ate and drank at themed parties before riding trolleys or buses to the next stop. The first year there were 11 destinations on the trolley route, while last year there were 10.
“It had too many moving parts,” said Heidi Vukov, founder of Coastal Uncorked and owner of Croissants Bistro & Bakery in Myrtle Beach. “A lot of people have said being in one location gives them a better opportunity to socialize with their friends.”
Vukov said this year’s attendees, as well as the organizers, will have the convenience of having most of the events take place in centralized locations.
As of Monday, Coastal Uncorked officials had made no announcements about whether there would be celebrities present. The festival had celebrity presence last year with Paula Deen, the Food Network star known for her Southern cuisine, as well as Matt and Ted Lee, brothers from Charleston who are James Beard award-winning cookbook authors. James Beard winners are the Oscar recipients of the food world.
“At this time, we don’t have any celebrities secured,” Vukov said.
Once again, an oyster roast will kick-off the event. The 2nd Annual Coastal Uncorked Oyster Roast will be 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. Feb.26 at Sea Captain’s House.
An array of oyster dishes, wine, spirits and live music will be available for a cost of $25 per person.
The prix fixe menus will also return. The “Three Course $20.12 Chef’s Tasting Menus” will showcase cuisine from participating area restaurants.
New to Coastal Uncorked is “Sip, Savor & Stroll,” which is an event that will take place 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. April 26 at The Market Common. Attendees will be able to sample an assortment of food and wine while strolling on site. Tickets cost $10.
Another inaugural event will be the “Oceanfront Grand Tasting Tents,” which will allow folks to take in an ocean view while eating, drinking and experiencing live entertainment. This event will be from 3:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. April 27 and noon to 3 p.m. and 3:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. April 28. A cost of $30 will be charged for each tasting session.
For $100, participants can purchase a “Grand Strand Combo Pass” that permits them to attend all three tasting tents and “The Chef’s Challenge and Tasting Finale.” It will be at 6 p.m. April 29 at the old Pavilion site on Ocean Boulevard.
The portion of the festival dubbed “Wine Dinners” will be held throughout the duration of the festival at various locations, with ticket prices from $60 to $120.
In addition, there will be nightly “Beer Dinners” held at participating restaurants, with prices to vary from eatery to eatery.
“Coastal Uncorked is going to be better this year,” Vukov said.
