Jon Huntsman dropped out of the race for the Republican presidential nomination, but he’s staying on a sand sculpture featuring all the candidates.
As of about noon Monday, there were no plans to remove Huntsman’s face from the sand sculpture dubbed ‘Mount Myrtle’ that features all of the Republican candidates, according to Nora Hembree Battle, a spokeswoman for the Myrtle Beach Area Chamber of Commerce. Crews worked on the sand sculpture for several days leading up to tonight’s Republican presidential debate at the Myrtle Beach Convention Center.
The sand sculpture, which is across the street from the convention center, has been a popular stop for folks to snap photos and is sure to land on FoxNews during coverage of tonight’s debate, which starts at 9 p.m.
Mt. Myrtle takes shape with the Republican presidential candidates' faces and parts of their torsos on Saturday, Jan. 14, 2012. The sand sculpture is located across from the Myrtle Beach Convention Center off Oak Street just north of 21st Avenue North. In addition to the candidate's faces, Team Sandtastic of Sarasota, Fla., has made a tribute to Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., an American flag and a "Welcome to Myrtle Beach" sand sculpture. The candidates are slated to debate at the convention center on Monday night. Monday is Martin Luther King Jr. Day. The candidates faces are, from left, Mitt Romney, Newt Gingrich, Jon Huntsman, Rick Perry, Rick Santorum and Ron Paul. Mt.
