A 21-year-old North Myrtle Beach man was jailed Sunday and faces two felony charges of driving under the influence after a crash on Saturday night that left a passenger dead and another injured, authorities said.

Ryan Roszel is charged with felony driving under the influence resulting in death and felony driving under the influence resulting in great bodily injury. He is jailed at J. Reuben Long Detention Center outside Conway and is awaiting a bond hearing.

Roszel was driving a 1997 Honda that struck a ditch and then a light pole at 10:11 p.m. on 100 Carriage Lake Drive, near the intersection of S.C. 90 and S.C. 31 in Little River, said Senior Trooper Brent Kelly with the South Carolina Highway Patrol.

Gail Lynch, 34, of Little River was ejected from the vehicle during the crash and pronounced dead at the scene, said Horry County Deputy Coroner Tony Hendrick.

Another passenger - a 24-year-old man from Little River - also was injured.

No one in the vehicle was wearing a seatbelt, Kelly said.

The S.C. Highway Patrol’s Multi-disciplinary Accident Investigation Team is investigating the crash.

The death was the second of the day Saturday on an Horry County road.

James Monroe Johnson, 50, of Surfside Beach was pronounced dead at 12:48 a.m. Saturday at Grand Strand Regional Medical Center after he suffered multiple trauma from being struck by a vehicle on U.S. 17 near S.C. 544, Horry County Deputy Coroner Darris Fowler said.

The vehicle was traveling south on U.S. 17 and Johnson was illegally in the road when he was struck at 12:10 a.m., said Senior Trooper Brent Kelly with the highway patrol.
