The Sun News’ editorial staff should be totally ashamed of themselves.

The paper’s policies concerning submission of “letters to the editor” are clear and unambiguous. They say among other things that “The Sun News avoids publishing: 1) letters that contain questionable or undocumented facts, and 2) letters that contain inappropriate attacks on individuals or groups.”

Consequently, I take great objection to the publication of the GOP smear letter that appeared Dec. 31 (“GOP job creators target middle class,” by Martin Loughlin). Obviously, you do not practice your own stated policy on the letters you decide to publish.

Similar stories:

  • Paper losing too much local coverage

  • No way to keep every reader happy

  • Liberal bias? I want the paper they’re reading

  • LETTERS TO THE EDITOR

  • Car show deserved more attention

In my view, the paper very carelessly or willfully allowed the writer to tar the GOP with a wide and totally irresponsible brush. The letter deals in nothing more than wild generalizations. This smear letter was clearly written by a person who does not possess all of the facts, is plagued with an inability to think logically and lacks a basic understanding of logical arguments.

Perhaps The Sun News’ publisher, editor and editorial staff are so left-wing, liberal and socialist that they decide to publish and pain your readership with whatever left-wing, liberal and socialist worthless propaganda material they come across.

By publishing such wacky writer’s mail, the paper seems to stand behind it, despite its policy to not publish such stuff. In so doing, it not only displays a serious lack of honesty, integrity and balance; it also delivers a serious disservice to our community and our nation.

Wake up, Sun News!

The writer lives in Calabash, N.C.
