SHELBY, N.C. | The Fitch family spent Christmas without their son.
More than four months after Dalton Fitch was stabbed to death at a Myrtle Beach campground, his family is waiting for some kind of resolution in the teens killing.
They could be waiting for a while.
We dont have anything (court dates) scheduled right now, Heather von Herrmann, Horry County (S.C.) assistant solicitor, said Dec. 20, adding that there hasnt yet been any discussion about whether the case will be resolved or be brought to trial.
Dalton Fitch, who would have been a senior at Crest High School, died in August after police say his schoolmate, Adam Dwiggins, stabbed him after a fight with other campers. Police charged Adam Dwiggins mother, Kathy Dwiggins, with hindering the police investigation into the murder.
Were just doing the best we can, Tracy Fitch, Daltons mother, said just before Christmas. (The holiday) just wont be the same. I dont get to spend Christmas with my son.
Dalton Fitchs death shocked the Cleveland County community, with hundreds of people attending the teens funeral on what would have been the first day of his senior year. Many people have called 17-year-old Dalton a hero for chasing after Adam Dwiggins when Dwiggins allegedly started a fight with a girl at the campground.
Both teens were students at Crest High School.
Since Daltons death, his friends and family have come together to honor his memory by creating T-shirts, drawing hearts on their wrists and holding a spaghetti dinner benefit. Daltons memory was also honored at Crest High in the schools memorial garden.
