Junior Nick Emery and his fellow Lone Peak (Utah) sharpshooters were on their mark for the second straight night Thursday, sending the Knights into the Beach Ball Classic semifinals with a strong finish in a 65-54 win over St. Augustine (La.).

Emery, who has committed to Brigham Young, followed his 37-point effort Wednesday night with 32 points Thursday while helping seal the win by hitting 9 of 10 free throws over the final three minutes.

“Our team is on an even keel all game,” Emery said. “They came out and played us great – I mean, physical. That’s what we’ve got to get used to back in Utah. So I mean it’s great competition out here, and we’re just excited to be out here.”

Never shy beyond the arc, 6-foot-2 guard had a couple airballs in the second half but kept his confidence and helped spur Lone Peak out of a shooting slump down the stretch.

The Knights’ lead – which was 30-18 at halftime – had been whittled to 40-36 before sophomore T.J. Haws added a free throw with 6:39 remaining and Emery followed with a 3-pointer from the left side to spark an 8-0 run.

Lone Peak stayed in control from there and will meet Whitney Young (Ill.) in the semifinals Friday night.

“You couldn’t get a better tournament in the whole nation,” Emery said. “Just the whole atmosphere, all the people that come out to this, it’s just fun to play.”

Emery finished 5 of 9 from beyond the arc and 13 of 16 from the foul line. Haws, who is also committed to BYU, added 16 points.

Senior Deion Taylor led St. Augustine with 15 points, while senior Sydie London added 13 and sophomore Craig Victor chipped in 12 points and eight rebounds.

•  Bishop Gorman (Nev.) 76, Lakota East (Ohio) 38 | Bishop Gorman rolled to its second straight lopsided Beach Ball Classic win while cruising into the semifinals in impressive fashion Thusday night.

The Gaels, who won the tournament in 2009, rolled to a win over Lakota East behind a game-high 22 points from senior standout Shabazz Muhammad.

Muhammad, ranked by Rivals.com and ESPNU as the top senior in the country, was 8 of 13 from the field while doing his damage in only 18 minutes of court time.

“We were feeling great. I mean, we’re coming out with a chip on our shoulder, and we just played as a team and had fun out there. And performed,” Muhammad said.

That, they did.

Bishop Gorman, out of Las Vegas, had a 32-2 lead at one point in the first half and went into halftime with a 41-8 advantage with another win well in hand.

Senior Rosco Allen added 17 points and 10 rebounds for the Gaels, who held Lakota East to 28.8-percent shooting for the game.

“Defensively, we’re getting better,” Bishop Gorman coach Grant Rice said. “I mean, I’m never happy, I’m never satisfied. I’m happy with the result, but we’re always trying to get better.”

After overpowering its first two opponents, Rice said his team knows it will face a tougher task in the semifinals Friday night against Milton (Ga.) And after coming up short in their last tournament, the Gaels are plenty motivated.

“I just think from the last tournament, I mean we’re not satisfied, and we want to win this tournament bad and continue the legacy of when we won it two years ago,” Muhammad said. “We’re just coming out with a chip and playing really hard.”

Zack Panzeca, meanwhile, led Lakota East with 10 points.

•  Milton (Ga.) 64, Ballard (Ky.) 53 | Milton’s experienced and aged talent overcame Ballard’s younger prospects, propelling the Eagles into the semifinals.

Milton (7-4) , with three seniors signed to play in either the ACC or SEC, pulled away with an 11-2 run after Ballard (7-4) pulled within two points with 10 minutes remaining following 3-pointers by Ronnie Baker and Quenton Snider.

Evan Nolte, Milton (Ga.) High’s 6-9 senior and Virginia commitment, had an impressive all-around game with 17 points, 10 rebounds, 7 steals, 4 assists and 2 blocks while playing all 32 minutes.

Milton’s other Div. I commitments are Auburn’s Shaq Johnson (8 points) and Georgia’s Charles Mann (11 points), and 6-8 senior Tevin Glass (16 points, 9 rebounds) is sure to sign with another Div. I program.

Ballard’s top three players are two sophomores and a junior, and 6-foot junior guard Lavonne Holland led four players in double figures with 16 points.

“What really is the big separation is they’re senior-dominated,” said Ballard coach Chris Renner, who led the Bruins to the 2000 Beach Ball title. “You’ve got three guys that are going to major schools. I’ve got some good young talent that will be mid- to high-major players, but the problem is that’s three years, two years down the road. Their kids are college-ready, and that was a tough task for us.”

Milton’s key run began with a Nolte 3-pointer and included a long alley-oop layin by Nolte. Ballard was held to 12 points over the game’s final 10 minutes.

“The difference was we really focus on defense,” Milton coach David Boyd said. “They scored 91 points the previous game and I knew we couldn’t give up 91 points and have a chance to win. You hold a team like that to the 50s and that’s a pretty good effort on the defensive side.”

•  MILTON (64) – Shaquille Johnson 8, Charles Mann 11, Evan Nolte 17, Jalyn Patterson 5, Tevin Glass 16, AJ Bush 4, Mo Lewis 3

•  BALLARD (53) – Kelan Martin 12, Quenton Snider 10, Ronnie Baker 10, Lavonne Holland 16, Dontez Byrd 1, Braxton Dunbar 2, Aaron Murray 2
