Friday’s area sports briefs: Three St. James wrestlers crowned champs

HILTON HEAD ISLAND -- The St. James wrestling team had three individual champions as it took second place behind Lexington in the 25-squad SeaHawk Slam on Friday.

Codi Rothermel (138-pound class), John Vanslooten (145) and Derek Rothermel (152) claimed title for the Sharks, who had eight wrestlers place.

Codi Rothermel defeated Bryce Carr of West Laurens (Ga.) 4-2, Vanslooten pinned West Laurens’ Keyon Taylor and Derek Rothermel pinned Lugoff-Elgin’s Harrison Kruger.

• Myrtle Beach 57, Forsyth (N.C.) 51 | E.J. Goings had 15 points as the Seahawks defeated Forsyth in the Panther Classic championship game.

• Metrolina Christian (N.C.) 65, Conway 57 | At Carolina Forest, The Tigers fell to Metrolina Christian in the third-place game of the Panther Classic. Calvin Davis scored 25 points for Metrolina and Jahriem Smith had 18 for Conway.

• (At) Carolina Forest 49, Northwestern 43 | Carolina Forest defeated Northwestern to claim fifth place in the Panther Classic. Robert Gray was the leading scorer for the Panthers with 10 points.

•  Carvers Bay 67, Waccamaw 49 | At Carolina Forest, Rayshod Pittman scored a game-high 21 points as Carvers Bay cruised past Waccamaw in the seventh-place game of the Panther Classic Tournament.

Noah Gulley led the Warriors with 13 points.
