A 20-year-old Conway man was ordered to serve 17 years in prison after he pleaded guilty to charges related to the shooting death of a Myrtle Beach man, according to court and jail records.
Jimmy Darrell Gagum, 20, of Conway, pleaded guilty Thursday to voluntary manslaughter and third-degree arson in connection with the May 19, 2010, death of Edwin Salters, 21, of Myrtle Beach, according to court records.
Gagum was released from J. Reuben Long Detention Center to the custody of the state Department of Corrections on Monday, according to jail records.
Three other men also face charges in connection with Salters’ death.
Salters body was found about 4:30 a.m. May 19, 2010, in the 200 block of Ridgefield Circle, which is located off S.C. 90 and near U.S. 501, according to authorities. Police said they do not believe that the shooting occurred on Ridgefield Circle.
Salters died from multiple gunshots to the head, according to an autopsy. His vehicle, a Ford Crown Victoria, was found burned.
Gagum was initially charged with murder, but pleaded guilty before Circuit Court Judge Steven John last week. John ordered Gagum to serve 17 years in prison on the voluntary manslaughter charge and 10 years on the arson charge, according to court records. The sentences will run concurrently.
Gagum was given credit for time he’s served and he was ordered to pay court costs.
