Two Horry County Schools administrators have won awards from the S.C. Association of School Administrators, according to a news release from the organization.

Judy Beard, principal of Loris Middle School, was named the 2012 S.C. Middle School Principal of the Year, and Dena Chatfield, assistant principal of Myrtle Beach Middle School, was named the 2012 Middle School Assistant Principal of the Year. The two were selected by a veteran panel of judges using criteria set by the National Association of Secondary School Principals.

Beard was praised by Molly Spearman, executive director of SCASA, as “an outstanding individual and dedicated educator. She serves as a champion for all students.”

HCS Superintendent Cindy Elsberry said, “Judy is an outstanding educator who works extremely hard to meet the needs of all students. Leaders like Judy Beard are often the best hope for our neediest students.”

Spearman said Chatfield “is a dynamic assistant principal and is widely respected for her knowledge and expertise.”

“Ms. Chatfield has consistently displayed qualities of initiative and dependability,” Elsberry said. “Her love for all students is evident in all that she does to ensure their safety and academic success.”
