Briefly: Byrd tied for fifth at Hooters Tour Carolina Winter Series event at River Hills

LITTLE RIVER -- Zack Byrd shot a 2-under 70 Wednesday and climbed seven spots into a tie for fifth after the second round of the NGA Hooters Tour Carolina Winter Series at River Hills Golf Course.

Byrd was tied for 12th coming into the second round.

Justin Regier, of East Amherst, N.Y. leads the event at 3 under after shooting 3-under 69.

Brock Elder, of Randleman, N.C., and Paul Brown, of Hartsville, S.C., are tied for second at 2 under.

Myrtle Beach’s Jason Perry is tied for 17th at 6 over after shooting an even par round.

High school girls basketball

• (At) Conway 47, Loris 42 | Briana Steel had a game high 20 points to lead the Tigers over the Lions. Steel also added six rebounds and six steals.

Alexis Sarvis had 11 points and eight rebounds for Conway.

Ronesha Bellamy led Loris with 15 points.
