Fast Five

As bad as the first “Fast and the Furious” was, you would think that its sequels would be direct-to-video shelf-stuffers. But oddly enough, after the second film, they’ve actually gotten better. This is the fifth film – hence the title – and it’s the best one yet. There’s still plenty of posing from the male stars, Vin Diesel, Paul Walker and with Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson joining the cast – you know the posturing has increased exponentially. There are still buckets of bad lines and a second-rate plot. Nothing about this film is going to make you smarter but the action is kick-ass. The franchise changing from a total waste of film to watchable movies must’ve come from director Justin Lin taking over the reigns for the third installment, “Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift.” Lin is scheduled to direct the sixth chapter of this greased-torso saga – let’s hope he hires better writers to tighten-up the plots and lose the beefy one-liners. I hate to say it but…worth a watch.
