Ocean Lakes Campground in Myrtle Beach has won three prestigious awards announced this weekend, including Mega Park of the Year as chosen by the National Association of RV Parks and Campgrounds.

“What we won is really huge,” said Ocean Lakes spokeswoman Barb Krum. “We are blown away by this.”

The awards were given this weekend at the end of a weeklong camping and RV conference in Savannah. Krum said the national association’s award is based solely on guest reviews and comments, and cannot be solicited by the campgrounds.

However, the campground was also named Campground of the Year for the fifth time, and that is an award that comes from peer campground owners and operators, and the park has to submit an application and information to be eligible, she said.

The other award Ocean Lakes won is being named one of the Top 10 Favorite Parks in North America for 2011-- another honor that is determined by guests as part of Woodall’s Vote for Your Favorite Campground Sweepstakes, Krum said.

“Ocean Lakes was one of only 44 campgrounds, RV parks and resorts across the country to earn an all around ‘A’ grade in the fourth annual guest reviews satisfaction survey of independent parks,” Krum said. “That is 2 percent of more than 1,000 parks.”

This is the fourth year Ocean Lakes has earned the A-grade recognition, and is one of only 12 parks in North America to have done so.
