A Myrtle Beach woman was assaulted Thursday evening by a man who accused her of taking his money, according to a report from the Myrtle Beach Police Department.

Richard Earl Hemingway, 23, of Myrtle Beach was charged with assault and battery third degree after hitting the victim with a broomstick to the back of the head.

The victim told police that she and the man are acquaintances from their neighborhood, the report said. She said the man accused her of taking his money before he struck her.

A police officer reported seeing the man trying to hide when he arrived and, after talking with the victim, was able to apprehend the suspect behind a home approximately 200 feet from the incident location, the report said.
