Man killed in Wednesday night Myrtle Beach accident identified

A man is dead after being struck by a vehicle Wednesday night while crossing the street in Myrtle Beach.

Myrtle Beach Police Capt. David Knipes said the accident happened at U.S 501 and Canal Street. The driver was northbound when the victim stepped out in front of the vehicle.

Horry County Deputy Coroner Tammy Willard said the accident happened at 8:05 p.m. Wednesday. The victim, identified as Jerry Jay Johnson, 51, of Myrtle Beach, was taken to Grand Strand Regional Medical Center and pronounced dead at 9:48 p.m.
