Dylan Dog: Dead of Night

A grab at the dark, noir-ish films where a morally ambiguous hero fights vampires or werewolves or zombies or all of the above. Starring Brandon Routh, better known as the guy who played Superman and kinda looks like a young Christopher Reeve, the part just doesn’t fit the cleanly, handsome actor. The style feels borrowed and though it’s loosely based on a British comic book series – the filmmakers bring nothing new to the table. Predictable with bad effects and worse acting, there could’ve been some interesting twists but any time humor is injected, it’s rejected just as quickly and snuffed out with flat one-liners. The monsters are beyond campy but they shoot for dread – it comes up laughable. I seriously looked for reasons to not hate this movie and I almost found a few then realized I was trying too hard for a flick that didn’t try at all. The name is even an affront to Bob Dylan and canines everywhere. Don’t waste your time.
