This one is from John Carpenter, the guy who scared the shit out of me as a kid. “Halloween” and “The Fog” and “The Thing” and “Christine” – classics that stick in your craw to the point where half of them are all being remade by other filmmakers he obviously scared the shit out of too when they were kids. But since those classics in the late ‘70s and early ‘80s, he has doled out flop after flop. Now, he returns, ten years after his last flop, with a shoestring budget. What does he do with very little money and years of disappointment – he makes a movie about an insane asylum. Well, it’s not a groundbreaking horror film but there is a spark. Carpenter hasn’t quite got his mojo back but he’s getting there. Not great but better than most of low budget horror flicks being gushed out – worth a watch/rent for horror or Carpenter fans.
