Mars Needs Moms

Sometimes a film just overreaches. It’s fitting this film makes a grab as far as Mars with the director, Simon Wells, being the great-grandson of H.G. Wells – the sci-fi writer who brought us “War of the Worlds” along with about a hundred other classics. The budget for this film was about $150 million – it made about $20 million. Seth Green is billed as the actor who played the 11-year-old lead character when in fact, Green’s movements were used in the sensor-capture sequences for the animation but a child actor’s voice was used in the film we see. Even with these problems, the film is a commendable effort and not a total waste of attention. It doesn’t live up to $150 million in production value but as family fare…it doesn’t suck. Worth a watch.
