Myrtle Beach High's Cameron Crutchfield is a jack-of-all-trades in the sports field, but she is a master of one - soccer.
Despite the sophomore's diverse talents on the golf course, basketball court and on the track, the pitch is where she most excelled this season.
As the leading scorer for the Lady Seahawks this season, Crutchfield is The Sun News' Toast of the Coast Girls Soccer Player of the Year.
"I love playing all four sports. It keeps me in shape and gives me the chance to compete year-round," said Crutchfield, who scored 18 goals and dished out 10 assists this season. "But soccer is my first love."
Crutchfield began playing soccer at the age of 4 and continues to compete in offseason travel programs. She also picked up basketball at the local YMCA at a young age and earned a state championship with the senior-laden Lady Seahawks earlier this year.
Despite playing a limited role as a sophomore, she was a key contributor on the hoops squad and got her first taste of what it's like to win it all at the high school level.
"It was incredible, really the best feeling ever," she said of the state basketball title. "We had a great team and we were really tight. I spent a lot of time cheering from the sidelines, but it was a wonderful experience. I hope we can do it in soccer."
The only downside to the long hoops season was that it cost her some precious practice and playing time with the soccer squad. But once she arrived to make the transition from the hardwood to the pitch she didn't miss a beat, earning Region VIII-AAA Player of the Year honors.
Making the feat even more impressive is that she split time in the spring with the track and field team, competing in the 100 and 200 meters. Crutchfield also added golf to her growing list of games last fall. She plans to continue her four-sport feat next season, but make no bones about it: Soccer is her primary goal, and her likely ticket to the college level.
"I'm going to keep doing what I do, but soccer is my main focus and probably my best shot to play in college," Crutchfield said. "Even though we lost [in the Lower State second round] this year, I have a lot of confidence in our team. We have a lot of upcoming talent, so people better look out for us."
