A Hartsville man remained jailed Monday in lieu of $75,000 bond in connection with a fatal crash that occurred in May on U.S. 501, authorities said.

Don Leget Marsh, 58, of Hartsville, was charged Friday with two counts of felony driving under the influence with great bodily injury and one count of felony driving under the influence resulting in death, according to records at J. Reuben Long Detention Center.

The charges stem from the May 7 crash on U.S. 501 in which Deanna Lynn Plyler, 41, of Heath Springs, was killed, S.C. Highway Patrol Lance Cpl. Sonny Collins said. Marsh was injured in the crash and not charged until he was released from the hospital.

The crash happened at 12:40 a.m. near Singleton Ridge Road.

Marsh, who was driving a 2007 Toyota pickup north on U.S. 501, reportedly crossed the median and struck a 2001 Nissan SUV in the southbound lane.

The truck also hit a 2006 Honda before coming to a stop, troopers said.

Plyler was killed in the crash, said Horry County Deputy Coroner Tony Hendrick. She was reportedly not wearing a seat belt at the time.

Two passengers in the SUV and the driver of the Toyota were all taken to a local hospital. Their names were not released.

The driver of the Honda was not hurt in the crash.

Woman indicted for prostitution

A Myrtle Beach woman has been indicted on two charges of prostitution in connection with incidents in December and January, according to Horry County grand jury indictments released this week.

Rebecca Mae Killian, 27, was indicted on prostitution charges stemming from incidents on Dec. 12 and Jan. 17 in Myrtle Beach at Kings Highway and Ninth Avenue and Fifth Avenue north and Kings Highway, respectively, according to court records.

Killian also has pending prostitution charges from Nov. 29, Dec. 29 and Jan. 31, according to records.

In the December arrest, Killian was charged after she was stopped in a vehicle driven by Russell Dean Heafner, 24, of Surfside Beach, along Pridgen Road.

Officers were conducting surveillance as part of an undercover prostitution investigation when they saw Killian get into the truck with Heafner, according to the report.

The couple gave conflicting information about why they were together and where they were going.

Details about the Jan. 17 arrest were not available.

GARDEN CITY BEACH

Firefighter critical but improving

A Murrells Inlet-Garden City firefighter remained in critical condition Monday after collapsing during an apartment fire Saturday afternoon in Garden City Beach, Assistant Chief Danny Lussier said.

The firefighter's condition is improving, Lussier said. He is at the Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston.

The man suffered heat exhaustion during the afternoon blaze, was treated at the scene and appeared to be doing better.

But then he collapsed and went into cardiac arrest and was taken to Waccamaw Community Hospital, Lussier said.

The firefighter was taken to Georgetown Hospital for a minor procedure, then transferred to the Charleston area hospital.

The blaze at Cambridge Apartments in Garden City Beach was ruled arson, but Lussier said he was not able to determine the exact cause.

There were no electrical issues in the area where the fire began in the complex at 409 Cambridge Circle, Lussier said.

Residents suspected a cigarette left on railing started the blaze, but Lussier said he could not determine if that was the cause.

Woman charged with domestic violence

A Myrtle Beach woman was charged after police said she used a lamp to hit her boyfriend in the head, according to a police report.

Glenda Bailey Deaton, 48, was charged with criminal domestic violence of a high and aggravated nature after police were called about 2:45 a.m. Monday to 7203 Porcher Drive, police said.

Officers found a 39-year-old man with a cut to his head and one on his hand when they arrived at the home, according to the report. The man told police he got into an argument with Deaton and it got out of control.

The man said Deaton hit him in the head with the lamp and when he knocked the lamp from her hand, his hand was cut, according to the report. EMS was called to the scene, but the man refused treatment.

Deaton told police she was intoxicated and was getting out of bed when she fell and hit the lamp, according to the report. She said she was unsure how the man was injured.

ATLANTIC BEACH

Budget for 2012 gets initial approval

The Atlantic Beach Town Council gave initial approval Monday night to the town's $903,269 budget for fiscal year 2012, which begins July 1.

The town's millage rate will remain at 84.5 mills.

And the town plans to have its fall festival, "Atlantic Beach Reunion," again this year.

The festival was added last year as another event and fundraising opportunity in addition to the annual Bikefest.

The town spent $5,000 on last year's festival, which brought in a $500 profit for the town.

Town Manager William Booker said town officials are projecting a larger profit this year due to it being the second year of the festival and awareness.

This year's annual Bikefest brought in a profit of $62,000, compared with last year's profit of $47,000, Booker said.
