A Conway man has been charged with arson and attempted murder following a fire at an apartment complex, according to authorities.

Leon Murray, 53, was charged Wednesday with first-degree arson and attempted murder in connection with a fire at an apartment at 2007 Hucks Lane, police said. Murray is being held on $100,000 surety bond.

Conway firefighters were called about 10:20 a.m. Tuesday to the apartment complex for the fire. Police learned a woman inside the apartment reported someone was outside her door pouring gasoline on her porch and threatened her.

When police arrived they found fire, smoke and a man lying in the front yard, who was later identified as Murray, according to a news release. Police learned the woman and Murray had ended their relationship and he went to her apartment that morning uninvited.

Murray was asked to leave the apartment and when the woman failed to open the door, police said he poured gasoline and lit it. When the woman ran out of the apartment, police said Murray also poured gasoline on her.

She was taken to Conway Medical Center and treated and released for minor injuries.
