The Horry County Council will present a resolution declaring May Home Remodeling month in Horry County at Tuesday's meeting, coinciding with the National Home Remodeling Month.

The Horry Georgetown Home Builders Association requested that the county recognize remodelers. County Councilman Bob Grabowski said it was a good idea and drafted the resolution.

"We're just kind of bringing recognition to the remodelers that work in Horry County, and it's a way of letting people know that they're here ready to serve," he said.

The resolution states that it is to promote the mission of professional remodeling at the start of the spring remodeling season.

The resolution also seeks "to highlight to homeowners the many resources that are offered to those contemplating the remodeling of a home, and to educate and inform people about the availability, importance and benefit of this type of service."

The Home Builders Association recently formed a new remodeling board that will address remodeling issues, according to Harry Dill, the president of the Horry Georgetown Home Builders Association.

An increase inremodeling projects created the need for the board, he said. As the real estate market continues to struggle, some homeowners are choosing to upgrade their homes rather than buy a new house and many builders have increasingly taken on the projects to stay afloat, Dill said.
