Two Longs men arrested in weekend Wampee shooting

January 20, 2011

Horry County police have arrested two men on charges related to the shooting of a man in the Wampee community, Lt. Jamie DeBari said Thursday.

Richard Earl Hemingway, 22, of Longs was arrested Wednesday and charged with attempted murder, DeBari said. Tamorris Lakenya Webster, 18, of Longs, was arrested Thursday on the same charge after police had been searching for him.

The charges against the men stemmed from an incident that occurred about 4 p.m. Sunday when police were called to the area of Star Bluff Road and Sweet Bay Road for gunshots being fired, DeBari said.

Police found a vehicle in the ditch with a bullet hole in its front passenger door, according to a previous news release on the incident. Officers later found a 21-year-old Longs man, Nigel Vereen, was being treated for gunshot wounds to his stomach and forearm at the Seacoast Medical Center in Little River.

Vereen was later taken to the Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston for treatment.
