CONWAY | Conway Main Street has agreed legally to abide by the dictates of the S.C. Open Meetings Law and has been enjoined from refusing to do so, according to a consent order filed Aug. 30 in the Horry County Court of Common Pleas.
The order is the result of a lawsuit filed by Conway artist and business owner Barbara Streeter because she was ordered to leave a March 19 volunteer committee meeting that was convened by the downtown development organization.
The order said that Main Street is subject to the state law because it receives public money and may close its meetings to the public only if it no longer has tax-supported funding.
