An 18-year-old St. James High School student has been arrested and charged after an investigation of possible threats made on two social media websites, according to a news release from Sgt. Robert Kegler with the Horry County Police Department.
Joshua Christopher Lane, of Surfside Beach, has been charged with disturbing schools. He currently is out of jail on bail, Kegler said.
Lane was arrested Wednesday after school staff alerted the school resource officer at St. James High of a statement in a threatening manner that was posted on the Internet.
According to an incident report, the son of a woman from Corpus Christi, TX had brought to her attention the post from two social network websites stating "You guys thought Columbine was bad...we'll see who's laughing Friday."
The woman and her son clicked on the user who posted the comment, and it identified him as Lane and provided his web address and Facebook page on those websites, the report stated.
The woman decided to contact St. James.
Authorities located Lane at the school Wednesday, frisked him for weapons, and took him into custody. He was taken to J. Reuben Long Detention Center.
