The Horry County Council gave final approval Tuesday to a zoning change that will allow a campground to be built adjacent to the Socastee schools off of River Road.

Several of the residents in the area of River Road have launched protests to the proposals, including raising concerns over the character of tenants that might house themselves at the campground, the safety of children around a transient population and the traffic increase on the road they say isn't built for business traffic.

The council passed the third reading of the ordinance to grant the zoning change in an 11 to 1 vote Tuesday night.
