Myrtle Beach man charged with assaulting Arizona woman

Myrtle Beach police charged a 45-year-old man with assault after a 49-year-old woman from Tempe, Ariz., according to a police report.

A Myrtle Beach police officer on patrol in the area of 21st Avenue South and Ocean Boulevard wrote in his report he heard a woman screaming and saw a man grab her by the neck, choke and shake her violently about 5:40 p.m. Monday.

Michael Shawn Miller, 45, was charged with assault and battery of a high and aggravated nature, police said.

The officer confronted the couple and Miller told the officer he wanted the woman to get her things and leave his apartment, according to the report. The woman told the officer she had known Miller since February and had been at his apartment for three days. She said she didn’t know why he choked her.

The woman told police she was trying to go back home and she was scared of the suspect, according to the report. The woman had red marks on her neck and was examined by EMS.
