Myrtle Beach police said a man and woman fell from a second-floor balcony of a motel in the 1400 block of South Kings Highway but neither was seriously injured.

Police said the pair were sitting on a balcony rail around 5 p.m. Thursday when they lost their balance and fell over.

The two had been drinking, according to police.

Police said the woman refused treatment.

The man was taken to an area hospital with injuries that were not believed to be life threatening.

LITCHFIELD BEACH

Swimmer in trouble pulled from ocean

Bystanders pulled a man in distress from the ocean at Litchfield Beach around 12:30 p.m. Thursday and began cardiopulmonary resuscitation on him, said Bob Beebe, public information officer for Midway Fire Rescue.

Beebe said he did not think the man was too far out in the ocean when bystanders noticed he was in trouble and pulled him to the beach.

He said the rescue squad transported the man to Waccamaw Community Hospital.

GEORGETOWN

13-year-old charged after boy stabbed

Georgetown police have charged a 13-year-old boy with assault and battery with the intent to kill in the Wednesday stabbing of another 13-year-old on Avant Court at the Georgetown Housing Authority, Capt. Nelson Brown of the Georgetown Police Department said Thursday.

The accused was charged as a juvenile and transported to the Department of Juvenile Justice in Columbia, Brown said.

The stabbing happened around 7 p.m. after the victim was picking on the other boy, Brown said.

The suspect got a knife and stabbed the victim in the upper stomach, lower chest area, police said.

Brown said the two were not related to each other, but were acquaintances.

The victim was in stable condition Wednesday night.

Registration opens for triathlon

The East Coast Volkswagen North Myrtle Beach Triathlon is accepting registrations, according to a news release from Nicole Aiello, North Myrtle Beach spokeswoman.

The triathlon, which starts at 7 a.m. on Sept. 11 consists of a 700-meter ocean swim, a 13-mile bike leg, and a 5K run.

Individuals can register at www.afc.nmb.us or www.setupevents.com.

The cost for individual registrants is $60 and for relay teams is $120 before Sept.1.

Individual registration will cost $65 and relay teams will cost $130 after Sept.1.

There also will be a $10 fee for those who are not USA Triathlon (USAT) members.

Online registration closes at 7 a.m. on Sept. 8 and on-site registration may be available during normal packet pick-up hours from 3 to 6 p.m. on Sept.10 at McLean Park and from 5:15 to 6:30 a.m. on Sept.11 at McLean Park.

Town to hold new festival in September

The town of Atlantic Beach will hold its first Atlantic Beach Reunion and Gullah Geechee Festival next month.

The free event will be held from 11 a.m. to 2 a.m. Sept. 4 and from 11 a.m. to midnight Sept.5.

There will be rides, games, food vendors, art, a photo booth, gospel choirs, R&B bands, beach fun and Gullah culture on display.

Attendees are asked to bring chairs.

Fall catalog for Osher program set

The fall catalog for the Osher Lifelong Learning Institute at Coastal Carolina University is now available, featuring a wide variety of noncredit courses for adult learners, according to the university.

More than 300 classes and workshops are planned for the fall term, Sept. 13 to Dec. 15, at three centers: Conway, Foundation Center at U.S. 501 and Winyah Road; Myrtle Beach, Myrtle Beach Education Center at 79th Avenue North and U.S. 17 Bypass; and Litchfield, Waccamaw Higher Education Center at 160 Willbrook Blvd.

Free Week, held Sept. 7 to 9, will feature free lectures and demonstrations of upcoming courses and special interest clubs, and gives students the opportunity to meet teachers and staff; learn about OLLI's website and online WebAdvisor; get registration assistance; and secure parking permits and photo IDs.

City hosting triathlon championship

Myrtle Beach will host the USA Triathlon National Championship Festival from Sept. 30 to Oct. 2.
