Police have released a description of the vehicle they say was likely involved Tuesday in a hit-and-run that killed a woman in North Myrtle Beach.
North Myrtle Beach police and state troopers agree that a 1995-2005 Chevrolet Astro van or a 1995-2005 GMC Safari van was likely the vehicle involved in the fatality.
The S.C. Highway Patrol Multidisciplinary Accident Investigation Team, which is seeking help from the public, also outlined the type of damage the vehicle involved could have.
The van would have damage to the front end, especially on the front right headlight assembly, and possible windshield damage.
Police are asking that anyone who sees a vehicle fitting this description, and that has this type of damage, contact officers immediately.
Corissa L. Irvin, 21, of New Hampshire was pronounced dead at the scene about 1:30 a.m. Tuesday, Horry County Coroner Robert Edge said.
Authorities believed she was walking home after work.
Irvin's death is the third within a month on the Grand Strand involving a pedestrian and vehicle.
The vehicle involved in the incident had fled the wreck site, near the Cracker Barrel, when authorities arrived, Nicole Aiello, NMB spokeswoman, said.
Anyone who sees a vehicle of that type with that kind of damage should call the North Myrtle Beach Public Safety Department at 843-280-5511or the South Carolina Highway Patrol can be at 843- 661-4705 or *HP on a mobile phone.
