Tax-free shopping weekend starts
The tax-free shopping weekend kicked off today in the Carolinas, with some shopping centers extending hours to cater to discount-driven shoppers.
Most back-to-school items including clothing, school gear and computers aren't taxed during the annual tax holiday, which runs through Sunday in South Carolina and North Carolina.
The weekend is usually a busy one for retailers, many of which extended hours this weekend:
Coastal Grand mall: 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. today and Saturday, 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Sunday, though some stores may open later each day.
Inlet Square mall: 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. today and Saturday, 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Sunday
Myrtle Beach Mall: normal hours, 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday through Saturday, noon to 6 p.m. Sunday
Tanger Outlets on U.S. 501 and U.S. 17: normal hours, 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. Monday through Saturday, 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Sunday
