Gunmen burst in back, shoot homeowner

A 38-year-old Myrtle Beach man was shot in the hand and robbed by two men who came into his house early Wednesday, according to a police report.

The man called police at 7:30 a.m. Wednesday to report two men came in through his backdoor that was unlocked and confronted him with a handgun, police said. The man, who lives in the 600 block of 63rd Avenue North, told police the men demanded his money before the man with the gun shot him.

The man said the robbers wore masks and fled the apartment before police arrived.

Police looking for robbery suspects

North Myrtle Beach police are seeking information about the robbery and kidnapping of two juveniles that occurred earlier this month along Ocean Boulevard and on Wednesday released surveillance photos of one of the suspects, according to a release.

The boys were picked up by two men at 10:50 p.m. July 7 at First Avenue South and Ocean Boulevard and rode around with the suspects for about two hours, according to Nicole Aiello, city spokeswoman. Just before 1 a.m. the boys asked to be dropped off at their hotel, but the men took them to an area behind a condominium complex off Second Avenue North and robbed them.

The boys were not hurt, but had their wallets and cash stolen, Aiello said. The boys described the vehicle as a white Honda-type car with custom rims, tinted windows, black leather interior, custom radio with neon blue lighting and possibly a tail fin on the vehicle's trunk.

Man robs business at gunpoint

A man armed with a gun robbed a Myrtle Beach business Tuesday evening, according to a police report.

Officers were called at 6 p.m. Tuesday to the Check-N-Go at 612 S. Kings Highway for an armed robbery, police said.

An employee of the business told police a man came into the office, pointed a handgun at her and demanded money, according to the report. The woman gave the man cash and he ran from the store.

Red Cross helps victims of home fires

Five adults and two children are being helped by the Red Cross after they were displaced from their homes Tuesday because lightning started fires at their homes in Conway and Loris, according to a news release from Red Cross officials.

A fire occurred at a mobile home on Gator Court in Conway and two adults living there were displaced, according to the release. Another fire occurred at a single family home on West Street in Loris and displaced three adults and two children.

Since July 1, area Red Cross officials have assisted 62 people, including 20 children, who have lost their homes to fire in Horry, Georgetown and Williamsburg counties.

Man arrested for child's sexual assault

Myrtle Beach police are investigating the sexual assault of a 4-year-old girl and arrested a 24-year-old man, according to a police report.

The girl's family went to the police department on Tuesday to report the incident, which occurred between July 19 and Monday in the 2000 block of Highway 15, police said.

Police later arrested Abel Hernandez and charged him with lewd act on a minor under the age of 16 and criminal sexual conduct with a minor, according to the report.

Two women attacked by boyfriend

Two Myrtle Beach women told police a man assaulted them when they went to an apartment to get clothing, according to a police report.

The women, ages 33 and 31, told police they went to the Calypso Inn at 302 N. First Ave., about 4:45 p.m. Monday to get clothing for the older woman, who had minor surgery earlier in the day, police said. The younger woman was taking the woman to her home to care for her while she recovered.

The older woman's boyfriend was at the apartment putting down new flooring and was intoxicated, according to the report. The woman and man argued and the man grabbed the younger woman, threw her to floor and punched her in the face.

The older woman said she tried to pull the man off and he began punching her, according to the report. The younger woman hit the man with a can of beer and the women were able to run out of the apartment.

GEORGETOWN

Council to hold meeting for interviews

Georgetown City Council will hold a special meeting on Friday to conduct the first round of interviews for the Director of Building and Planning.

The council will meet at 1 p.m. and will then go into executive session to conduct the interviews.

The meeting will take place in council chambers at 120 N Fraser Street, Georgetown. The council will also hold a special meeting on Thursday, Aug. 5 at 5:30 p.m. to conduct two second readings; one to annex .35 acres of land into the corporate limits of Georgetown and one to rezone .35 acres of land owned by Georgia Sky, LLC on Church Street.
