A pedestrian trying to cross U.S.17 Bypass near Beach Ford in Myrtle Beach was hit by a vehicle Wednesday afternoon, according to authorities.

The incident occurred around 4 p.m. when a man crossing U.S.17 Bypass from the east was struck by a vehicle heading south on the bypass, said Myrtle Beach police officials.

Sgt. Dave Cooke said the man was running by the side of the bypass when he cut in front of a van that was traveling 40 mph.

He said no charges will be filed against the driver because all of the witnesses on scene said the man ran out in front of the vehicle.
