Ocean Boulevard and hotel reopened after possible chemical spill

June 21, 2010

A possible chemical spill in the 2100 block of North Ocean Boulevard in North Myrtle Beach is now cleared, according to the city's spokeswoman, with no injuries and no leak.

Spokeswoman Nicole Aiello residents who were evacuated from a hotel have been allowed back in and a portion of Ocean Boulevard that was closed has reopened.

She said a chemical room alarm was activated around 8 p.m. apparently because of corrosion on a sprinkler head.

In response authorities evacuated the Towers on the Grove on North Ocean Boulevard and closed a section of that street while firefighters investigated what set off the alarm.

The situation is under control, according to Aiello.
