Gubernatorial hopeful Nikki Haley and five other state and local candidates spoke this morning to a small gathering of the Myrtle Beach Tea Party.
The tea party group officially endorsed Haley for governor, Larry Kobrovsky for First Congressional District, Thad Viers for S.C. House of Representatives and Joe Defeo for Horry County School Board. Lieutenant governor candidate Bill Connor and superintendent of education candidate Kelly Payne, who had previously been endorsed, also spoke.
Gov. Nikki Haley has endorsed Mitt Romney for president and will campaign with him in South Carolina this weekend.
“He is a conservative businessman who has spent his life working in the economy, and he understands exactly how jobs are created,” Haley said in a news release from Romney’s campaign.

Just a year after helping sweep in a new Palmetto State governor and four new congressmen, the Tea Party may well be a non-factor in picking the winner of the Republican Party’s South Carolina presidential primary.
The 9:30 a.m. event is part of a push by the tea party to get out the vote in the final lead up to the primary election, said Luke Towery, president of Myrtle Beach Tea Party.
"We are 10 days out from the election, so get excited because we're about to take South Carolina back," Haley said. "You took me from 'Nikki, who?' to first in the polls. That was because of the tea party."
The gathering of about 35 people in the Kings Festival Shopping Center, 1403 North Kings Highway, comprised mostly campaign workers and Myrtle Beach Tea Party organizers. The event, which styled itself as a flash rally, coincided with today's Memorial Day weekend parade, where the tea party members handed out cards encouraging residents to vote.
