Oak Island woman killed in DWI crash
A Brunswick County, N.C., woman died in a head-on vehicle crash during the weekend near Southport, according to N.C. Highway Patrol officials.
Satu M. Harris, 38, of Oak Island, N.C., died at the scene of the crash, which occurred about 11:30 p.m. Friday along N.C. 133 near Southport, according to authorities. The driver of the vehicle that struck Harris, Daniel Harrison Brennick, 22, of Southport, was charged with driving while intoxicated.
Other charges are pending against Brennick, who was transported to a nearby hospital with serious injuries, police said. Brennick's vehicle crossed the centerline and struck Harris' vehicle nearly head on. Debris from the crash struck a vehicle traveling behind Harris.
Harris and Brennick were the only occupants of their vehicles.

Pair accused of making off with golf cart
Two North Carolina men have been charged in connection with a stolen utility trailer and a golf cart that authorities have recovered, according to a news release from Sgt. April Stanley with the Brunswick County Sheriff's Office.
Robert Dion Maldanado, 37, of Lumber Bridge, N.C., and Gary Lynn Thompson, 41, of Bladenboro, N.C., have each been charged with two counts possession of stolen goods and one count possession of drug paraphernalia, the news release stated. Maldanado also has been charged with three counts of felony larceny, and Thompson also has been charged with two counts of felony larceny.
Maldanado is being held at the Brunswick County Detention Facility on $15,000 bail. Thompson, who was also wanted by Bladen County authorities when he was arrested in Brunswick County, is being held at the Brunswick County Sheriff's Office on $180,000 bail after being served warrants from Brunswick and Bladen counties.
Maldanado and Thompson were both charged Wednesday after they were found in possession of one of two stolen golf carts and a utility trailer at their residence at 2000 Inland Drive in Ocean Isle Beach, N.C., which is one street over from Oakland Drive, where the two golf carts had been stolen from two residences.
The golf carts and the utility trailer, from Gause Auto and Trailer Sales in Sunset Beach, N.C., were taken between last Monday and Wednesday, according to police.

2 agencies work on late-night house fire
An overnight fire at an Horry County house remains under investigation, according to authorities with Horry County Fire Rescue.
Firefighters were called about 11 p.m. Sunday to 1345 Highway 348 near Loris, said Leslie Yancey, public information officer for Horry County Fire Rescue.
Horry County firefighters received mutual aid from Loris firefighters, she said. Investigators are working to determine the cause of the fire.
Additional details such as how much damage occurred during the fire were not immediately available Monday.

Trio offer man a ride, get threat in return
Myrtle Beach police took a North Carolina man into custody after three men told police he pointed a gun at them after they asked him if he needed a ride, according to a police report.
The 26-year-old man from Fayetteville, N.C., had not been formally charged Monday in the incident, which occurred in the area of Ninth Avenue North and Withers Drive about 2 a.m. Sunday, police said.
The victims, a 22-year-old Snowhill, Md., man, a 21-year-old Virginia Beach, Va., man and a 21-year-old Reading, Pa., man told police they left a bar in the area and asked the man sitting in the area if he needed a ride because he didn't look OK, according to the report.
An argument occurred and the men said the suspect went to a nearby vehicle, got a gun, pointed it at them and threatened to shoot them, according to the report.

Stun gun used when patron wouldn't go
A Gaston woman was arrested inside a Myrtle Beach bar after she refused to leave and fought with officers. She is being held on more than $16,000 bail, according to police and jail records.
Sophia Nichole Stone Jackson, 26, was charged with three counts of assault while resisting arrest on a police officer, threatening the life of a public official, trespassing, throwing body fluids by a prisoner on a corrections employee, and simple assault and battery.
Jackson is being held at J. Reuben Long Detention Center on $16,868 bail, according to jail records.
Myrtle Beach police arrested Jackson about 1:30 a.m. Friday after officers were called to The Eleventh Hour at 709 N. Ocean Blvd., for a woman who refused to leave the establishment, according to a police report.
Officers found Jackson inside the bar and she told them she was not leaving until she finished her drink, according to the report. When an officer took the drink from her and asked her to put her hands behind her back, she kicked one officer, jerked her arms and fought with the officers.
An officer used a stun gun on Jackson, but she was not affected by it so officers pushed her to the ground, according to the report. Jackson tried to bite one officer on the leg as she resisted arrest and yelled at them. Jackson also spit on the officers during the incident.
According to jail records, she was also arrested April 22 for disorderly conduct and resisting arrest.
